Cara Leeney Counseling
Connecting Mind, Body, and Spirit
Hi, I’m Cara Leeney
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor - Associate, Yoga Teacher & Student, and Energy Worker.
I’m located in San Antonio, Texas but I am able to meet with clients virtually throughout Texas.
I have always felt the desire to help others along their life path. I feel I am extremely lucky that I get to do exactly that. I truly believe we all meant to live a life we are excited about living. If we are waking up unmotivated or anxious in the morning, something is out of balance.
There are many other ways our body and spirit will signal to us that we need support. It’s our duty to listen to these whispers before they turn into screams.
I like to take a holistic approach while working with my clients. I understand that we are a complex and beautiful system that houses a mind, body, and spirit. And all three really need to be seen and acknowledged to integrate full healing of our inner wounding.
I believe each of us have a unique life path, light, and personality that makes our life so important and special here. My hope is that my clients learn to see their beauty and self worth to live a life they truly love and chose.
You can expect we will use a combinations of therapeutic tools support you best. This can include, EMDR, Somatics, Mindfulness, Meditation, Yoga, Talk Therapy, DBT, Attachment Styles.
Theraputic Techniques
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is the gold standard treatment for trauma. But you do not need to have had a traumatic event happen for this treatment to be beneficial. EMDR allows the brain to process unhealed memories that still live within us. By processing these memories, we drastically reduce mental health symptoms associated with PTSD and anxiety and depression.
Somatics
The word soma converts to body in Greek. Somatic work entails using the body to regulate the nervous system. The nervous system is the most important part of creating a sense of safety in our body and our environment. We may have behaviors and thoughts that are unhelpful/unhealthy, but they feel safe because they are familiar. By creating a sense of safety with our new behaviors and beliefs will allow us to integrate them into our lives easier.
Talk Therapy
Traditional talk therapy allows us to access our thoughts and belief systems and start to develop more helpful thought patterns. There are many theories and psychoeducation that can be utilized here.
